You will forget, and I will too.

You will forget, and I will too. But tonight, as I lie on my bed collecting the ghosts of every name that's every passed through me like the wind through an open window. I press their faces into the corners of my mind, faces of them all. I try to keep them alive in ways I'm too ashamed to accept. I look at alike faces twice, a small flicker of hope, just enough to light a matchstick, that they're someone I once knew. My eyes linger longer than they should, searching for something familiar, a laugh, a whisper of my name, or a story I once belonged to. And every time, the stranger remains just a stranger. But for that breath between recognition and reality, they are them. They are everyone I've tried not to forget. Am I alive too? Am I alive in the strangers they see, things they do and the thoughts they think?
