Stray & The Man

I sat on the footpath, whispering a prayer, Hoping for mercy, for someone to care. Then came a hand, so gentle, so true, Feeding my hunger, my spirit it grew. I followed him home, my hopes running high, Dreaming of shelter beneath his kind sky. With only a smile, he opened the door, But left me a seat on the porch, nothing more. I feared one day his kindness would fade, So I slowly withdrew from the place I stayed. I return at times, not every day— Enough to be near, yet not drift away.
