"The Twelve years, one street "

Submitted By: Bhagath H G

We met by the bell of second grade, two backpacks at one gate. Sidewalks learned our footsteps, and afternoons learned our names. No arguments—only the easy nod of understanding. We traded crayons for constellations, chalk for plans. Dreams were folded like notes and passed between porches. Thoughts wandered the lane; we walked beside them. Summer flew kites; winter kept our secrets warm. We learned that silence can smile when company is kind. Trust became our compass, simple and sure. If distance tried to rise like a fence, we held it level. He spoke of oceans; she mapped the stars. Our initials lived in the notebook’s margin. Twelve years stitched with steady thread. Neighbors, yes—but more, a steady harbor. Friendship, quiet as dawn, bright as day.
